Nick Swisher: My New Favorite Yankee

Posted by Andrew Zercie on April 13, 2009

Nick Swisher seems to be the only New York Yankee hitting these days and tonight, he was also the only Yankee who could pitch, too.

In the Yankees’ 15-5 drubbing at the hands of the Tampa Rays, Swisher hit a solo HR in the 4th inning. Then, he came in to pitch the bottom of the 8th, and was the only Yankee “pitcher” to hold Tampa scoreless.

The last Yankee position player to pitch in a game was Wade Boggs, back in 1997.

There’s no word on whether or not Swisher will audition for the role of the situational lefty in the bullpen.

He is most certainly becoming a favorite among Yankee fans. Those number 33 jerseys are selling fast.
